THE ART OF SEED SAVING has been practiced for thousand of years. Collecting and saving your own seed is easy. The seeds that you produce from your own crops are accustomed to your climate and your soil and are likely to be more resilient to pests in your area. Most likely the seeds you collect and save are better than seeds bought commercially. Another advantage is that you will be able to keep your own varieties going into the future. Many old varieties of seeds are threatened today as they are not suitable for commercial agriculture and food processing. Seed savers help to keep old varieties, or heirlooms, alive, ensuring continuity of unique varieties and in this way preserving the genetic diversity of our garden crops.
